The late Volney Q. Irwin died intestate and in accordance with his wishes Schuyler C. Kennedy has been appointed to administer his property according to law. In the past few years Mr. Kennedy drew up no less than 10 to a dozen wills for Mr. Irwin but they were all short lived. There was no material differences in any of them but every now and then something would turn up causing Mr. Irwin to change his mind and the latest instrument would be consigned to the flames. Less than two weeks ago Mr. Irwin talked the matter over with his attorney and fixed this week to draw up yet another. He insisted that there was no occasion fro haste, however, declaring that he ws going to live to be a 100 years of age. With the exception of a few of his personal effects it was his desire to dispose of his property as it will go by law. The estate will be divided into seven parts. His half sister, Mrs. Flora A. Erwin of Bedford, a sister, Mrs. Ada E. Allen of Topeka, Kansas and a brother, C.C. Irwin who lives somewhere in Kansas will each receive one seventh. The residue will be distributed proportionately among his nieces and nephews, the children of 4 deceased brothers and sisters. At one time Mr. Irwin was quite wealthy but he suffered reverses so that his total holdings at the time of his death will probably not amount to over $15,000. The Irwin corner, which is to be appropriated as the government building, constitutes the bulk of it and will bring about $8,000. Besides this he had a lot in this city, a small farm near New Market and piece of real estate at Terre Haute. He had some money loaned out also but the amounts will not be known until an inventory is taken.
